Comfortable indoor climate

Achieving a comfortable indoor climate in buildings with glass facades is a delicate balance between the need for natural lighting and avoiding excessive heating from the sun. Heating directly from the solar beam is critical. Anyone and anything near the facade will experience the higher temperature.

The micro lamellas of the MicroShade™ reduce or block the direct solar beam progressively with the height of the sun. When the summer sun is high in the sky, the MicroShade™ blocks the direct solar beam almost completely and provides an effective shade inside the glass facade. And yet the MicroShade™ remains transparent at all times and allows a clear view out.

In the winter, the sun is low and less intense. MicroShade™ allows more solar beam into the building, and such passive heating of the building helps reduce energy costs.

Work-friendly light

Even at its most effective, the MicroShade™ provides a clear view out and allows daylight into the building. As the high intensity direct solar beam is shaded by the micro lamellas, the daylight passing through the MicroShade™ will appear soft and friendly to the working environment. Dark shades, typical in positions near facades, are greatly reduced by MicroShade™.

Natural colours

MicroShade™ provides completely colour-neutral solar shading. The light reflected or absorbed by the lamellas is completely blocked and the light transmitted through micro lamellas is the same colour indoors and out. Thus, the colour of the transmitted light is determined only by the glass in the glazing. For typical MicroShade™ glazing the colour rendering index is above 95% and fulfils the EN410 requirement for neutral coloured glazing.
